Happy 3rd Birthday Ella!

Happy 3rd Birthday Ella!

To our darling Ella

Today you turn three years old. Three years of fun, laughter, happiness and joy. Today, as you bounce out of bed in the morning we celebrate each and every second of love you have brought into our lives. We have so much to be thankful for. I have so much I want to say, and hope that in years to come, when you read back over these posts that you simply know how much we love you.

Do you know how much you mean to me?
As you grow into what you will be.
You came from within, from just beneath my heart.
It’s there you’ll always be, though your own life will now start.
You’re growing so fast it sends me awhirl,
With misty eyes I ask, Where’s my little girl?
I’m sure in the future you will (sometimes) see us as being unfair,
But one day you will see, we taught you well because we care.
The next few years will so quickly fly,
With laughter and joy, mixed with a few tears to cry.
As you begin to grow, this fact you must know,
You’ll always be our source of pride, no matter where you go.
You must stand up tall and proud, within you feel no fear,
For all you dreams and goals sit before you very near.

As you see in these moments, we’ve had so much love to share

and on this birthday, your third…we wish you a world of happiness and care.

Back to School

Back to School

Next week I’m going back to school. Whilst I’d love it to be the school that I work at, and be returning to the job that I love, unfortunately it is a different kind of school. I shouldn’t say unfortunately, as it is a positive thing. We are going to Masada Hospital to get some help for our little man. Namely to help him sleep and feed better. It’s been a long time coming and after nine months, we are pretty desperate for help. The road to this point has felt like and endless one, as we’ve hit so many cross roads and gone off the beaten track. It took me a while to actually bite the bullet and fill in the forms and apply to get some help. Probably too long in hindsight. unnamed Like all Mums, I just wanted to ‘fix’ him myself and after already having a child, I felt that I should be able to. I wanted to put into place all of things that I learned to do, and also what ‘not’ to do.  You see, we learnt our lesson with Ella. We rocked her to sleep, let her sleep in our bed. Did everything to create terrible sleep habits. However this hasn’t been the case with Hudson. They say that all children are different, and I can only say that our two are like chalk and cheese. We were determined to develop good habits from the start, and have always tried to put him down awake etc. etc. but sometimes, children just have a mind of their own. With prematurity and low birth weight naturally comes feeding issues, and in turn sleep problems. It’s been a vicious cycle with our little man, and as you know, we have tried everything to help him.

Nine months later, he is a mix of happy and angry. He is crawling, has four teeth, pulls himself up, smiles and laughs and has met all of his milestones with gusto. Days are, for the most part, really good and he sleeps and plays well. He has taken solids well and generally takes most foods. However when it comes to sleeping at night,  it is a different story. He still wakes through the night, and its a regular occurrence that this can be every hour. We’ve stopped feeding him at night (after a 10pm dream feed), and give him water to ensure he is hydrated. Some nights are better than others, but for the most part, it’s still a real struggle. We simply need sleep. We know we’ve tried everything and now we need to turn to the experts to help him get over this hurdle.

I’m open to anything and hope that I can work with the team next week as we spend five nights and six days, resetting his clock. Whilst Masada is not a ‘sleep school’ per se, they offer an individualised program to help parents with children who suffer from sleep and feeding issues, unsettledness, reflux and other problems that come with little ones. My hopes for the week are that we come home with a baby who sleeps through the night, and feeds a little better during the day. (When I say through the night, I’d be happy with 5+ hours). I’m hoping to share my experiences throughout the week, and with my ‘down time’ I’ll be blogging and writing about how we are going. Hopefully to help me look back and see how far we’ve come, and also to help other Mums who may be experiencing the same thing. The Countdown is on! kate

All you need is LOVE

All you need is LOVE

This weekend just gone, was one of those times that I know I will remember and cherish forever. It was one of those times when you family and friends comes together, simply to have fun, relax and enjoy life. My gorgeous brother Pat, married the love of his life, the beautiful Maddy. As the months of anticipation and preparations came to a head, we headed down to Angelsea on Melbourne’s Bellarine Peninusla, to spend a few days together and simple enjoy the love. Destination weddings are just wonderful. Time to relax together before hand, and unwind afterwards as you share great memories, and have a few laughs about the antics that occurred. In our family, stories like these are not hard to come by, and lets just say that we will be laughing and smiling for many weeks to come.

My brother Pat is probably the definition of a ‘relaxed bloke’ and so, it was with great joy that we celebrated time together before the big day, together with his groomsmen, and mates who we have also known and grown up with. There is nothing greater in my book than sitting down together with a few drinks and great food, as we helped him prepare for his big day. It wasn’t without a moment of angst however, as we experienced what was a 24 hour storm and strong down poor of intense rain. Our prayers were answered however, as the skies cleared on the morning of the big day, in time for photos on the huge deck that overlooked the ocean. My brother  has three sisters, and we were so excited to officially welcome another Sherlock gal into our family. Life could not be happier.

What made things even better was having our beautiful children share the time with our family. Ella took pride of place as a flower girl, and simply loved every second of it all. Complete with her little hand bag and first lip gloss, she could not have been happier. Looking just divine in her MiniDiva Tutu from Dizine Kids, and wearing a gorgeous flower crown.  Her proud Mum and Dad simply beamed at her sight throughout the day. Not one to be upstaged, her little bro Hudson looked dapper in his pin striped suit, still fitting after his Christening. This time round however, he donned a cute mow hawk and the outfit was complete with his gorgeous PaperKrane custom made brogues.

With the boys looking very slick in their blue suits the boys hopped into their simply awesome Kombi that took them to the church. This was one of the coolest touches of their wedding. Arriving at the church, my brother looked nervous, but so ready to meet his love. When she arrived, is was all it should be. Happiness, joy and pure love. Seeing her walk down the aisle to meet my brother was something I will never forget. Seeing the look on his face was just wonderful. Having my daughter walk down before her was a moment that made us all beam with joy. It couldn’t have been better.

We danced the night away, ate, drank and sang at the Angelesea Surf Club, high up on the cliffs above the ocean. The incredible band pumped out the tunes and we had an incredible time. What topped the night off was listening to the heartfelt words from my brother about his friends, his family and his beautiful Maddy. Never have I heard him speak with so much confidence, so much feeling and so much love. It was simply beautiful.

Next to the days when my children were born, my wedding day was the best day of my life. I am so happy that my little / big brother was able to experience his own wedding day in such a happy setting, and with so many people who simply love him and his new wife.

To Pat and Maddy, we love and adore you and simply wish you all the health and happiness in the world.

And with that, here are a few of my favourite pics from the day…

Bub Crawl

Bub Crawl

Today I’m sharing some happy milestones in the life of my little man. At just eight months he has recently mastered the commando crawl, sits himself up and has just acquired his fourth tooth thanks to an angry set of canines that have broken through. I’ve been looking back over our milestones with Ella and I have to say that whilst my little man has had his struggles, he is going gang busters in other areas.

His poor little brain has gone into overload. Crawling, sitting, teeth. It’s all happening. It’s funny that once your child learns the art of moving, they never stop. Ever so determined to get ‘that’ toy, he drags himself across the floor and proudly sits himself up when he reaches his target. There are so many things I’ve forgotten about this stage. The need to get everything out of reach, move things to the centre of the coffee table, keep the floors clean and ensure that you have lots of spare clothes on hand to change him after the endless dirt that appears down his front. I’d forgotten about the drool! The endless drool! The munching, on everything!!!

I’d forgotten how frustrated they the night when they wake, over and over. They sit themselves up and forget how to lay back down. They chew on everything. Think bite marks everywhere! Ella was a biter and chewed the side of her cot like a corn cob. The cute thing is Hudson is starting to add his own marks that are distinctive, and we can tell their ‘bites’ apart!

I’d forgotten how they pull themselves up onto everything. They beam with pride….

I’d forgotten how dirty they get. How their fronts get covered in dirt and it makes you realise how unclean your floors are. Someone really should invent a Onsie mop!

However most of all, I’d forgotten how proud you feel when you see them sit up on their own. When you see them reach for that toy on their own. When you see them smile with that little toothy peg sticking out.

Little milestones that make a big difference in their gorgeous lives.

Keep growing little man!

Rafferty’s Garden Giveaway

Rafferty’s Garden Giveaway

As you all know, of late things have been crazy in our household. Every family I’m sure has experienced non stop fun over the holiday period, and this was heightened with our little man putting us to the test with endless nights of no sleep. During this time, I admit that I have found it difficult to cook all the time, and this had me worried that I wasn’t providing my family, and in particular Hudson with everything that they needed. Then one day, I got  a delivery from Rafferty’s Garden, featuring a huge box filled with a vast variety of fruit purees, baby meals and snacks for Ella. I could have kissed them and was indeed extremely grateful.

Over the summer, I have used these products to supplement the other meals that I have made myself. I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve used ready made products, and have ensured that the ingredients are only the best, and contain no preservatives. Essentially, Rafferty’s Garden is the ultimate ‘baby hack’. Saves time, reduces chaos and helps make life more enjoyable!

With a huge range of products, Rafferty’s tailor their food to suit your baby at different ages. Starting at four months, they ensure that they think about the cooking process, just as much as we do at home. Whether its pureed, lumpy or mashed, they have it covered. Fruit, savoury, custards, smoothies….their range is huge. Boy did it help me as a Mum over the summer.

Some of Hudson’s favourites were:

Not only are they convenient, but they have an incredible range of flavours to ensure that your little one gets a variety of meals.
