And then she was five.

And then she was five.

Somehow, a few weeks ago, our Ella turned five. Five years old. In some ways it seems like a small number. However in my eyes, five years feels like my who life. How did we ever ‘be’ before our Ella? Before this little princess was born into this world, into our life? As a parent, when your babies are new, people tell you over and over to enjoy the time as it goes too fast. At the time, in the midst of feeling through the fog, you nod and smile without really understanding the gravity of it all. Fast forward five years and our little baby has grown into a girl. A beautiful soul who we love and adore. Who has, just these past few weeks showed us a new, courageous side to her personality. One where shyness steps aside to reveal a confident and capable girl who will no doubt, take on the world.

The thing is, I remember turning five vividly. I remember feeling so excited about having a party to celebrate being five years old. It made me think about the fact that Ella will now remember these times as an adult. She will remember the feeling, the happiness, the joy of being a child. Of celebrating with family. Turning five is a big milestone.  These really are the times to cherish.

So we gathered a few close family and friends in our local Harleston Park to celebrate the occasion a few weeks back. Celebrating birthdays at local parks is something that I love doing. Enjoying being outside, playing. enjoying each others’ company. If you are lcuky enough to live in the Caulfield area in Melbourne, then you may or may not know about this gem of a park. It not only has a fabulous park, but a man made water creek where kids can dip their feet and play. I hired the rotunda and we brought some delicious treats made with love from local businesses including cookies by Frosted By Nicci and our cake by Nerida’s cakes. We also had facepainting again by the incredible, and oh so affordable Jenny from Little Sparks entertainment. Ella squealed with delight as she ran around in her gorgeously gold dress, brought home from Japan by her Dad on his recent trip. She smiled from ear to ear as she had her face painted with her kinder friends.

Here are some precious snaps of her celebration!

Such a great day!

Ella darling, I hope you feel loved and full of joy. You are such a kind, generous and giving soul. You always want to help others and do the right thing. We hope that your continue to grow to love who your are, find your passions and know that you can do anything!

Love Mum

Happy 3rd Birthday Ella!

Happy 3rd Birthday Ella!

To our darling Ella

Today you turn three years old. Three years of fun, laughter, happiness and joy. Today, as you bounce out of bed in the morning we celebrate each and every second of love you have brought into our lives. We have so much to be thankful for. I have so much I want to say, and hope that in years to come, when you read back over these posts that you simply know how much we love you.

Do you know how much you mean to me?
As you grow into what you will be.
You came from within, from just beneath my heart.
It’s there you’ll always be, though your own life will now start.
You’re growing so fast it sends me awhirl,
With misty eyes I ask, Where’s my little girl?
I’m sure in the future you will (sometimes) see us as being unfair,
But one day you will see, we taught you well because we care.
The next few years will so quickly fly,
With laughter and joy, mixed with a few tears to cry.
As you begin to grow, this fact you must know,
You’ll always be our source of pride, no matter where you go.
You must stand up tall and proud, within you feel no fear,
For all you dreams and goals sit before you very near.

As you see in these moments, we’ve had so much love to share

and on this birthday, your third…we wish you a world of happiness and care.

Turning Two!

Turning Two!

It’s amazing to say it, but this week, our darling Ella turned two. Two happy, funny, challenging and wonderful years for Ella and  us! We are so proud of her, and so proud of ourselves for surviving! It’s such a great milestone because we also know that this will be her last birthday as an ‘only child’. Next year she will have to learn the skill of sharing her presents and letting her younger sister or brother share some of the lime light (we’ll see how that goes!).

This year, we celebrated in a much more low key and simple style compare to the extravaganza of the First Birthday. We opted for a simple day out at a local playground – for any Melbournians, the fantastic Caulfield Park. Thanks to a tip from a good friend (thanks Amanda), I rang the local council to reserve a great spot with a Rotunda, BBQ, toilets and toddler playground. Who would have thought that you have to fill out paper work, pay for insurance and ‘reserve’ a spot at the park, but I guess as all things do, time changes everything!

So this year we invited a small group of family and friends to help celebrate the occasion. The weather held off and it was a lovely couple of hours. Whilst it was low key, I still had to get creative with some of the birthday staples, and turned to good old Pinterest for inspiration. Here are some of the ideas for invitations, food and decorations that made the day really special…

Nothing beats Etsy for invites. Beautiful designs emailed to you at a reasonable cost. Print them out at Officeworks or your local printer and bingo! We got this one through Sarahlukecreative.

You simply cannot go past Cake 2 the Rescue for Birthday Cakes. This year I made Ella a Hootabelle Cake. Done in few hours, these girls make you look like a Masterchef without the fuss and expense!

Simple lolly boxes – noodle boxes from the $2 shop! I then altered Ella’s invite using Keynote to add a thankyou greeting!

It is with great pride therefore, that Stephanie featured Ella’s First Birthday Party. I was so excited to be able to share my tips and advice for creating a beautiful celebration without breaking the bank. When I originally posted about her birthday back in March, I wanted to share my ideas with parents so that they too could afford to create the perfect party for their kids. There are so many options out there…whether it be on etsy, a diy idea on pinterest, or a youtube clip. By using the power of technology, you can transform simple paper into a stylish creation!

Some of the ideas from the blog post include:

Creating your own personalised invitations with the help of graphic designers on Etsy. The one we used was J for Jordy.  The other stroke of pure genius is using a Cake Rescue Kit from Cake 2 the Rescue. Never again will I need to worry about the perfect cake…

Simple, beautiful and personalised decorations from Vens Paperie on Etsy. All you do is send off your child’s name and age, and they send you a PDF to print and laminate! We also made the tissue Pom Poms by watching a youtube clip. All it takes is a little patience!

And finally, the sweets were clearly the piece de resistance, so simple recipes like this one from Kidspot helped to make the sweet treats yummy! These mars bar teddy cars were a real hit!

I hope that Stephanie’s Readers enjoy the post and can benefit from the ideas and advice! It’s a great site with loads of suggestions for Mums and Dads! You can follow Bondville via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest!

Thanks Steph!!

Friday Finds: Wrap me up

Friday Finds: Wrap me up

With so many first birthdays this year, I’ve been buying and wrapping presents at least once a week. On my weekly (sometimes daily) Pinterest pondering, I’ve come across a few super cute ideas for wrapping presents and making them almost too gorgeous to unwrap. Everyone knows that the wrapping paper is almost just as fun for babies as the present inside, so why not make the whole experience just as fun as the present itself. I’m sure that everyone will love these ideas, that cost next to nothing, and will put a smile on any child’s face!

Why not invite the kids to draw on their present before they unwrap it???…..

Everyone loves a little Pom Pom decoration….

If you have time….

The wrapping itself is a present…

This one is my favourite….print off a simple photo and add it to the gift…

How ever you wrap a present, I love the idea of making the whole experience a little more personal and special. For more wrapping ideas, you can visit my Pinterest board here. Ella’s little boyfriend Josh is next in our group of friends…will have to get our thinking caps on!

Birthday Girl

Birthday Girl

It’s taken me a little while to get back to Ella’s blog after a couple of weeks of frantic work, and preparing for my dear friend’s wedding. I completley forgot to post some gorgeous images of our family celebration on Ella’s actual birthday. It was a intimate and love filled night with Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and her Godmother. Ella was (again) the centre of attention from the moment she woke up, till the second her precious little head hit the pillow. A year has come and gone, and Ella’s huge smile said it all…..
