Friday Finds: Laugh & Learn with Fisher Price

Friday Finds: Laugh & Learn with Fisher Price

Screen Shot 2013-02-16 at 9.36.31 AMBetter late than never, once again my Friday Find is a little late. This week I posted a photo of Ella playing with our iPad and I received a number of requests asking about the App that she was using. Fisher Price have a number of fantastic ‘Laugh & Learn’ Apps that focus on the simple skill of understanding Cause and Effect. Understanding that touching the screen can cause shapes, animals and colour to move and make noise provides children with a sense of awe and wonder. Ella loves these range of Apps because they are filled with colour, animation and familiar sounds. Most of their Apps are free and also can be paired with a range of great tools including the Apptivity Monkey and Apptivity cases for iPhone and iPad.

The following Apps are Ella’s favourite….

FP_ShapesHD_Icon512_tcm169-22414Shapes & Colours Music Show – Babies touch the variety of coloured shapes, each singing and dancing with their own personality

FP_Sounds_Icon512_tcm169-22415

Animal Sounds for Baby – Babies learn about different animals and the sounds they make

FP_PuppyHD_Icon512_tcm169-22413

Where’s Puppy’s Nose – Learn about the parts of the body by following the cute Puppy!

I hope that your babies enjoy these Apps as much as Ella does!

Friday Finds: Instagram is online!

Friday Finds: Instagram is online!

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 8.59.40 PM
Today I discovered that Instagram has gone online! This is fantastic! It means that you can browse those gorgeous pics directly from your home computer or laptop when you are not out and about. If you are a (newish) Mum like me, you sometimes find yourself at home in your pyjamas at midday. Sometimes, my phone is dead and I have time to do some work on my laptop, or browse Pinterest or Etsy (cue  sighs from my husband). Instagram has finally gone online, and this is a great decision that brings this fabulous tool to the world of the www. A funny thing, that it started out as an app, and eventually moved toward being available on desktops and laptops. The demand must have been there, and although it is not a ‘life changer’, I for one, and really happy that they decided to make this move….

For those of you who have not yet ventured to the land of Instagram….get on it! We are coming up to a year of life with our gorgeous daughter and it’s lovely to browse through some of the following pics to see how she has changed. This is  a (small) selection!

Friday Finds: Birthdays c/o Etsy

Friday Finds: Birthdays c/o Etsy

This week’s Friday Find is a little late. This week I went back to work three days a week, and although it’s great to get back and into the swing of things, it’s meant that the house work and time with Ella has taken up most of my time over the last few days. This week I wanted to share with you some of the fantastic finds I have discovered on Etsy. As we prepare to celebrate Ella’s First Birthday in a few weeks time, I’ve turned to the amazing world of hand made decorations, ornaments and party favours that are available on Etsy. Needless to say, we are trying to keep things simple for her first experience of having a party, but the colours of pink and red are certainly going to adorn every inch of my Mum’s house.

Inspired by a friend’s recent celebration, I found this beautiful personalised bunting. You can choose from a variety of beautiful fabrics, and personalise the wording with your child’s name. A simple ‘Happy Birthday Ella’ was chosen to adorn this gorgeous decoration from Giddygumdrops…

Although we want to keep things simple….the idea of a gorgeous ‘candy bar’ for our little girl, is something that we think she would love. Full of sweet treats, fresh fruit and of course, that good old birthday cake, I’m hoping to re-create our own ‘Ella’s sweet shop’. You can spend a fortune getting someone to do this for you, or you can turn to Vens Paperie. This fabulous service allows you to choose from a range of various party themes, and with a click of a button you can have your own personalised cake toppers, food cards, water labels, thank you cards and more. All you need is your own printer and a little time to cut and organise your cards to make your very own candy bar.

Some of the themes include…

The Farm Barn Yard theme…..

The DIY Birthday will never be the same with these fantastic and affordable ideas! Here’s hoping that I can recreate it just like the photos!!!

Friday Finds: Toy Storey

Friday Finds: Toy Storey

photoThis week’s Friday Find is short and sweet. It’s a simple one, yet it has made such a big impact on my day, life and living room. For the last few weeks I’ve been searching for a colourful, practical, stylish yet relatively inexpensive solution to the adventure park that has become our living room. When my cousin had her daughter, she always told me how her house became invaded by toys, and now I understand that feeling completely. Ella has amassed  nearly a hundred toys, from rattles to blocks, stuffed toys to puzzles. Each night I pack them in the corner to once again remember what our living room looked like. Each morning they gradually spread across the room, into every nook and cranny of the house. I know that Ella is not yet putting ‘salada’s’ in the video player (Aussie in joke), but I tell you, this girl has got a clever way of getting the heaviest toy to the end of the house. Needless to say, that I have always worried that I will be caught out by that ‘last minute’ visitor and they will see the crazy chaos that has become our home. It makes me feel better however, that I know we are not alone!!!

I searched high and low, and today I came across a great product at the good old Reject Shop. Simple flexible plastic tubs that come in a  variety of sizes, they are similar to the very stylish ‘Tub Trug‘, however these are pretty much the same look and feel, for almost a third of the price ($8.95 for a 38L tub). What’s even better is the colour range will suit almost any household. In the end, if they last the test of time, then great, but if they don’t (and find their way into our dog’s mouth), then they haven’t broken the bank.

At least I can now breathe a sigh of relief as our lounge room now looks a little ordered…until Ella decides to turn the buckets upside down.

Friday Finds: Cake 2 the Rescue!

Friday Finds: Cake 2 the Rescue!

Screen Shot 2013-01-18 at 9.43.49 AMWith Ella’s first birthday just a few weeks away, my mind has landed in the world of Birthday Cakes. Growing up, we always got out the good old ‘Womens’ Weekly  Birthday Cakes‘ book and spent days picking and choosing our dream cake. I remember vividly the ‘witch’ laced in liquorice, the ‘duck’ with a potato chip beak and the good old smarty train. Most Aussie kids do not remember their birthdays without fond memories of this great book. I’m not sure if my baking skills are up to scratch to venture into this timeless tradition just yet, so thank goodness I stumbled across the fabulous ‘Cake 2 the Rescue‘ thanks to an old friend Veronica on Facebook!

Screen Shot 2013-01-18 at 9.44.23 AMCake 2 the rescue does just that…it rescues time poor (and skill poor) Mums and Dads who want their precious kids to have that ‘amazing cake’ on their Birthday. Without the hassle of forking out hundreds for an intricate cake, Cake 2 to the Rescue provide you with all you need to bake your very own masterpiece. Founded by two Queensland Mums – Lisa and Lou, aka ‘The Baker Girls’, this great service was created following their own experiences of frustration as they tried to make their kids the perfect cake.

Screen Shot 2013-01-18 at 9.44.38 AMThe idea is simple…you choose the design (over 7o), and for a very reasonable price (starting from $29.95), they send you all you need to re-create the cake of your dreams. From the ingredients, to the candles and disposable, grease proof baking tin…this is a miracle in the post.  Inspired by a friend’s effort in making her own Peppa Pig cake (from scratch I might add), I have decided to give this idea a try and order my own Peppa Pig pack. I’m hoping that my excitement will be met with equal satisfaction when the final cake is complete….all I can say is…watch this space! I’m certainly hoping that this little package in the post ‘rescues’ this new Mum!

The are also on Facebook where you can view testimonials and great ‘baking’ experiences.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

A little late with my Friday Find this week…needless to say that finishing work, a crawling baby and last minute Christmas chaos has taken over! This week I wanted to share a couple of great Christmas finds that I discovered in my online travels. These tools have brought a wonderful sense of Yuletide fun to the Korber household this week. Even though I know that Ella is still a little too young to understand the meaning of this fabulous time of year, these little finds sure have made this Mummy very ‘festive’ and excited about the days ahead….

Unknown-1JibJab Christmas e-cards

Jib-Jab has been around for quite a while, but this is the first year that I used them to create my own Christmas e-card. With many different templates to choose from, for all of the year’s celebrations, these e-cards make an old card come to life! This year, a combination of lack of time, together with the wanting to include Ella in the cards, led me to use Jib-Jab to create our own cute video. The only problem was trying to choose which of the following cards to use!

Friday Finds: Mathilda’s Market

Friday Finds: Mathilda’s Market

On Sunday, Ella and I will be trotting off to the annual Mathilda’s Market Christmas Market at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne.

Mathilda’s Markets are held regularly throughout Australia each year, however the Christmas Market brings together over 100 stalls of beautifully hand made Childrens’ homewares, clothing, manchester, toys and Christmas ornaments. Last year, I went along to support my dear friend’s beautiful store Little Tinkers, and was amazed
to discover an entire hall filled with gorgeous finds. The only problem was, at the time I was 30 weeks pregnant and did not know if I was having a girl or a boy. Never the less, I bought some gorgeous unisex cot quilts, embroidered jumpsuits and appliqué bibs.

This year however, the gloves are off as I search for all things pink, red and girly. I can’t wait to take Ella along to find some gorgeous additions for her room, summer dresses and hats, and Christmas presents for under the tree. It’s a wonderful market at this time of year and it is filled with dozens of amazingly talented Mums and Dads who have found that little talent that they can share.

In particular, I can’t wait to go back to a few stalls that I saw last year. This includes:

The Rainbow Bright Felt Ball Rug from – Mini Me and You

The custom named letters from – Milly & Me Designs

The Ruby’s House Mobile from – Beautiful Child Boutique
Parking is free and ample in the carpark of Caulfield Racecourse. The market is on between 9-1pm on Sunday and prams are a plenty in this jam packed market. It really is fabulous!
