Last weekend, we were thrilled to be invited into the city to spend a night at Somerset on Elizabeth. Residing on the corner of Elizabeth and Londsale Streets in Melbourne’s CBD, their family apartment was our home for the weekend, as we took the kids to not only enjoy the city by day, but by night as well. There is something great about spending a night in the city. Dan and I have done it many times on our own, but we’ve never taken Ella and Huddy to spend a night in Melbourne.
We regularly head into town to check out the shops, visit the Museum or Aquarium, but having the chance to simply walk back to our apartment after our day out, and chilling on the couch, with an amazing view was fantastic. Somerset on Elizabeth Melbourne offers one and two bedroom options that are perfect for families. Perfect, because they have a full sized kitchen, two bathrooms (with a bath), and wait for it….. a washer and dryer. Being able to stay in an apartment, cook a meal and wash clothes is every family’s dream whilst staying away.
My favourite thing about the apartment was the fact that wall to wall windows wrapped the apartment. With 180 degree views of Melbourne, my children sat at their window sill for ages, just watching the world go by. They’ve never had the chance to do it before.
Some of the other aspects we loved were:
- The valet parking. Simply drive up, and they parked our car for us!
- The spash pool and spa. Being inside, they were the perfect size for little ones in Melbourne’s winter
- Breakfast was included
- and finally, the games that they have in the room. Giant jenga, table tennis and giant dominoes. They were the first thing our kids noticed, and perfect for any family who is looking for a great stay.
The property is located just moments from the world class boutiques and department stores of Bourke Street Mall, Emporium and The Strand, the hustle and bustle of China Town and ten minutes’ walk from Etihad Stadium in one direction with the MCG and Rod Laver Arena just a 15-minute walk in the other.
We spent the day shopping in the city, and had a fabulous dinner at Trunk in Exhibition street. They have a fantastic kids menu, and their cocktails are delicious! When we got back the kids had a quick dip in the swim spa, which in winter, was perfect considering it was inside! The next morning, our stay was topped off with a yummy breakfast just 100m down the road (included in your stay), and then the valet team fetched out car and returned it to us….easy peasy!
What’s more, we headed down the road to Fed Square to visit the new Alice in Wonderland exhibit at ACMI. Only a ten minute walk away, it was such a great base to access everything in the city!
I honestly cannot recommend Somerset on Elizabeth more highly. It is perfect for families who want to have the same comforts of home (ie. kitchen, bath, washing machine), and would be fabulous for anyone with children visiting Melbourne from interstate!
